    Top Pet Poisons: Household Cleaners

Everyone enjoys having a clean home, so there’s a vast array of household cleaners out there. Many of which, are anti-bacterial and use powerful germ and virus killing chemicals, ensuring that we have a clean and bacteria-free home. But at the same time, these cleaners can be really hazardous and in some cases, just plain toxic. No one would ever think exposing their kids to these things, but how many of us consider just how harmful they can be for pets? Granted, most cleaners do come with warning labels that let us know they may be hazardous to children and domestic pets. But a label does little to prevent a dog from turning the cleaner into a chew toy.

The ASPCA even included household cleaners in their Top 10 Pet Poisons of 2009! Here’s what they had to say about them:

“Everybody knows that household cleaning supplies can be toxic to adults and children, but few take precautions to protect their pets from common agents such as bleaches, detergents and disinfectants. Last year, the ASPCA received 4,143 calls related to household cleaners. These products, when inhaled by our furry friends, can cause serious gastrointestinal distress and irritation to the respiratory tract.” http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/poison-control/top-10-pet-poisons-of-the-year.html

One way to ensure that your pet, or child for that matter, won’t be exposed to harmful chemicals is to start using products that are more natural. PawSafe Household Cleaners clean every bit as well as the more mainstream brands, but use natural plant-based surfactants to cut through dirt, instead of chemical cocktails. PawSafe products even earned the Good Housekeeping Seal for being both safe and effective. You can find out more information about PawSafe by visiting www.pawsafecleaners.com

So before you think about cleaning again with those chemical cleaners, think about safer options. Why take risks when you don’t have to?

Housetraining Your Puppy: What to Expect at Every Stage

Each stage requires a little leadership and encouragement on your part, so your puppy will keep doing what you know he’s capable of at that age.

    The First 2 Training Weeks

What every experienced puppy owner can tell you: The first few days will almost certainly test your patience! Imagine 72-hour puppy-sitting marathon and that’s what you’re in for. But the rewards are for life: After time you will have a dog that trusts and adores you and has good manners with you and everyone he meets. Hold that image of your happy, well-trained pup close to your heart and you’ll always survive.

The key to the first couple of weeks is a keen eye! Keep your housetraining routine consistent and watch for your puppy’s patterns and timing, Also, keep careful notes by recording all your puppy’s activities and the times they occur each day. Don’t be frustrated by small setbacks. Keep a calm, in-control demeanor with your young pup at all times.

    3rd Through 4th Training Weeks

Puppies are usually not mature enough at this age to handle going only in their designated spot consistently. The reason that’s critical for you to know if that just a few accidents at this stage could jeopardize weeks of successful training. So continue to keep a close eye on you pup, watch those warning signs when he’s about to go, and ensure that every potty experience is a positive one – no exceptions!

    Fifth Through Sixth Training Weeks

By about the fifth week, your puppy should be consistently eliminating in his spot if you have been consistent. Your job, now, is to keep up the good work! Remember:

    • Keep the puppy on schedule, even if he seems trained

    • Don’t get discouraged if your puppy still makes mistakes. Practice makes perfect!

    • Continue to supervise him when he’s out of his confined area.

Here are some housetraining supplies that will make the process easier on both you and your pup!

    PawSafe™ Household Cleaners

We’re pleased to introduce our new product line, PawSafe™ Household Cleaners, which are specifically formulated to be safe around pets and kids. Many people are unaware of the harmful effects traditional household cleaners can pose to their pets and family. The ASPCA lists household cleaners in the top 10 of poison calls handled by their poison control center; over 3,000 calls were received last year alone. PawSafe Household Cleaners are formulated using natural plant-based ingredients that are safe and just as effective as traditional cleaners, without leaving a dangerous chemical residue behind.

Cleaning products are essential for maintaining an attractive and healthy environment in the home and workplace. In addition to the visual benefits of cleaning, the removal of dust, allergens, and bacteria is key to maintaining a safe indoor environment. But many household cleaning products can present several health and environmental concerns instead of protecting from them. Unlike the PawSafe line, others cleaners may contain chemicals associated with skin, eye, respiratory irritation, or other health issues which can be especially harmful to the much more sensitive children and pets.

PawSafe products have even earned the Good Housekeeping Seal. So you can use them with complete confidence, knowing that they are safe and effective.

To make sure PawSafe products were not only safe but also effective in tackling your household cleaning problems, we had outside independent consumer products testing lab, Bureau Veritas, put our products to the test. See the results here.
